Despite the District of Columbia having the worst public school system in the country, it was recently rated “The Most Literate City in the United States”. The study, conducted by Dr. John W. Miller of Central Connecticut University, analyzed data on the reading of newspapers, magazines, books, and even the internet. While the District once again received terrible grades for student achievement in grades K-12, the city moved from second to first place on this year’s literacy ranking. Hopefully someone high up sees these findings and realizes we need to make some changes if we want to stay on top of this list. Click here for the complete study.
